Its bright and bold color cheers up any room or tablescape (has Sandra Lee made this an official word?) and growing it is SO easy, green thumb or not.
All you need is a few tablespoons of wheat and your favorite spring containers. Get creative here. I've grown wheat grass in all sorts of seasonal containers for every room. If you are a thrift shopper, find some vintage bowls and use those. If you want whimsy, I found ceramic Easter ducks & chicks at the Dollar Store. For a dollar. I know, right?
Soak the wheat berries in enough water to cover for 4 hours to overnight. This will get the wheat ready to "pop". And it will.
Fill your containers with potting soil (or any good dirt).
One dollar for these cuties, can you believe it?
Cover the dirt with a single layer of soaked wheat berries.
Cover with plastic wrap
Leave on for one day until you see tiny white "tails" appear on the wheat berries
Now it's game on!
Spritz with water a few times each day (keep berries moist)
and in just two more days, you will have a beautiful Easter centerpiece
for your table, window, or counter.
If you really want to take this to another level...trim the wheat grass and blend in a green smoothie or juice it (if you have a wheat grass attachment) for amazing nutrients!
Healthy AND decorative, what more could you ask for?
Happy Spring everyone!

You are so creative!
Oooo I like this idea (if not Sandra Lee and her overdone tablescapes that I could never recreate!). I may do this and give to my mom for our Easter table. Just enough time, right? ;)
Thanks ;) And yes, Michelle - just enough time! :)
I love this idea! I never would have thought to do it. What a great way to bring some well needed green into your house.
Love this, you are so Martha!
